Additional peculiarities of the municipality:
Uzhhorod is the western gateway of Ukraine and one of the safest rear municipalities during the full-scale war. The city is located in Zakarpattia Oblast, directly on the border with Slovakia and close to the borders with Hungary, Romania and Poland. This makes Uzhhorod a natural bridge between Ukraine and the European Union and provides strong potential for cross-border cooperation, logistics, trade, investment and international partnerships.
The municipality has direct access to international transport corridors, railway connections, border infrastructure and European markets. Its strategic location is especially important for businesses looking for a secure and flexible base in western Ukraine.
During the war, Uzhhorod became an important humanitarian, economic and administrative hub. The city has welcomed a significant number of internally displaced people and supported relocated businesses, public institutions and civil society initiatives. This has increased pressure on municipal infrastructure, housing, education, healthcare, water supply and wastewater systems, but also strengthened the city’s human capital and economic potential.
Uzhhorod is attractive to investors, donors and international partners due to its geographical position, relative security, active business environment, skilled workforce, university and educational base, experience in hosting internally displaced people, and strong potential for green energy, water and wastewater infrastructure, industrial development, tourism, logistics, IT and cross-border projects.
