Petropavlivka municipality comprises eight settlements including the administrative centre of Petropavlivka, the settlement of Zaliznychne, and six surrounding villages. Located within a strategic resource corridor, the municipality lies 120 kilometres from the regional centre of Dnipro and is positioned 18 kilometres from the industrial hub of Shakhtarske.
The local economy is heavily anchored by significant mineral wealth, sitting within a region that accounts for 17% of Ukraine's total hard coal production and a substantial share of the state's coal-bed methane gas reserves. Large-scale mining operations are actively conducted on the territory by PJSC DTEK Pavlohradvuhillya, complemented by local extractions of industrial sand and clay deposits along the floodplains of the Samara, Byk, and Sukhyi Byk rivers.
Beyond heavy industry, the municipality maintains a diverse commercial ecosystem featuring 111 registered enterprises and institutions alongside 322 individual entrepreneurs (FOPs) that drive local employment and sustain the municipal budget. For international organisations, development agencies, and economic transition funds, this industrialised municipality offers a structured, resource-rich platform for investments targeting energy sector diversification, infrastructure modernisation, and post-industrial economic resilience.
