Type of territory: de-occupied
Population: 33,714
Area of municipality: 66.7 km2
Priority project:
Reconstruction of heat supply networks in the village of Gorenka
Additional peculiarities of the municipality:
Hostomel settlement is located in the immediate proximity to the city of Kyiv (approximately 28 km), which determines its favourable geographical position, high investment potential, and important role in the development of the Kyiv agglomeration. The community includes Hostomel settlement and the villages of Horenka, Moshchun, and Ozera.
The municipality has a long history dating back to 1494, and in 1614 it was granted Magdeburg rights, confirming its historical significance as a self-governing settlement. Today, it is an area that combines historical heritage, unique natural resources, and significant industrial and logistics potential.
An important feature of the municipality is the presence of Antonov Airport, which together with convenient transport links to Kyiv shapes its role as one of the key logistics hubs in the region. The economic structure of the municipality includes enterprises in logistics, construction, trade, and services. Among the leading companies are “Vetropack,” which has restored its glass production operations, logistics operators such as “Kuehne+Nagel,” as well as the agricultural sector represented by “Green Guild Group,” which implements modern technologies in crop cultivation and processing.
In 2022, the municipality was under temporary occupation for approximately 35 days and was liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During this period, Hostomel played an important role in slowing the enemy’s advance toward Kyiv and effectively became one of the defensive strongholds of the capital. During the fighting, the world’s largest cargo aircraft, the Antonov An-225 “Mriya,” which was based at Antonov Airport, was destroyed.
Following de-occupation, the municipality has been actively recovering, creating new opportunities for investors, donors, and international partners, and laying the foundation for further sustainable development within the Kyiv metropolitan area.
