Additional peculiarities of the municipality:
Poliska municipality, situated within the Ukrainian Polissia region, is characterized by extensive natural resources, including dense forestry, peatlands, and agricultural land. Sharing a direct border with the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, the municipality operates within a distinct environmental framework that offers unique potential for scientific research, biodiversity preservation, and large-scale ecological or nature-based mitigation projects.
In 2022, the territory endured a period of temporary military occupation, which resulted in severe disruption and damage to its local public infrastructure, utility networks, and social services. In response, the local administration is actively directing its recovery strategy toward rebuilding a resilient local economy, which is traditionally anchored by forestry management, woodworking, and low-intensity agriculture. Promising avenues for post-war modernization include local wood and crop processing, bioenergy production from agricultural waste, and specialized ecotourism.
The municipality serves as an experienced, capable partner for international institutional cooperation, particularly through established cross-border initiatives with Polish partners and European environmental funds. For international organisations, climate mitigation donors, and development agencies, Poliske offers a transparent platform focused on environmental safety, radiological monitoring, sustainable forestry, and green infrastructure recovery.
